Impact - Construction technology

IMPACT measurement technology represents the state-of-the-art in high-temperature pressure probes, which are used in the production and transformation processes of plastic materials (MELT). This innovative solution uses a piezoresistive principle that eliminates the need for transmission fluids, directly measuring the mechanical deformation of a piezoresistive silicon element in response to pressure variations.

The sensitive element is an SOI chip placed inside a square cavity on a ceramic support, ensuring optimal load transmission thanks to a mechanical preload between the silicon measurement membrane and the external contact membrane. This “floating” sensor concept eliminates the need for the additional materials commonly used in chip bonding technologies. The stress induced by the deflection of the measuring membrane is detected by piezoresistors positioned above the membrane itself and connected in a Wheatstone bridge configuration.

High Resistance to Temperature and Wear

The IMPACT probes, equipped with digital electronics, are designed to work at pressures up to 1000 bar and temperatures up to 350°C. The membrane, in direct contact with the polymer and 15 times thicker than a filled technology sensor, guarantees a long life span even in harsh environments, such as those with filled polymers.

Response speed

Piezoresistive technology ensures consistent, repeatable, rapid and accurate measurements even at high temperatures.

Sensitivity, Accuracy and Reliability

The IMPACT series offer extremely accurate pressure measurement (±0.25% FS). In the process temperature range of 20 to 350°C, IMPACT has Zero drifts < ±1.2% FSO and Span drifts < ±1% FSO. This unique feature of IMPACT means the process temperature can be varied even during the phase in which the extruder is under pressure, unlike filled Melt pressure sensors.

Easy calibration

IMPACT probes allow Zero and Span calibration using a magnetic pen, avoiding errors and drifts caused by mechanical trimmers. This system ensures precise and reliable adjustment.

Robust design

Piezoresistive technology is synonymous with reliability and precision, even in harsh environmental conditions. The section that manages the transfer of pressure from the membrane to the chip is designed to optimise the Thermo-Elastic Coefficient (CTE), ensuring excellent and constant performance over time.
